What Is Overspray?

Overspray is airborn particles such as paint, crude oil, tar, chemicals, concrete, etc., that cover and or adhere to any surface. There are many types and origins of overspray. The most common is paint related. Paint overspray accounts for over 70% of all overspray removal claims. Paint overspray can originate from a simple hand held spray can to a high powered commercial airless spray gun.
     Paint overspray can be a problem wherever painting is in progress; construction sites, bridges, auto body and paint shops, as well as repainting of homes, roofs, watertowers, storage tanks, etc.
     Windy conditions increase the risk of paint overspray. As the wind carries the paint away from the intended surface, everything within the surrounding areas become likely victims of the paint overspray.

How to Identify Paint Overspray

     80% of all overspray removal is performed on cars, trucks and vans. We will refer to these vehicles to describe how to identify the presence of overspray damage.
     The following are some common complaints from new car, truck and van owners, victims of overspray damage:

"My new car's paint finish feels rough, even after I wash it."
"The paint on my new truck has never looked really shiny."
"When I wax my new car it never seems to last long at all."

     Here is how you can check if your vehicle is damaged by overspray:
  1. Wash the vehicle.
  2. Feel the paint. If it feels rough as if specs of dirt were still on the surface, take a closer look.
  3. If you see particles or specs of what seem to be paint dots, try to rub them off with your finger, NOT YOUR FINGERNAIL (this may scratch the surface).
  4. Inspect the windows and moldings in the same manner.
  5. If the particles or specs remain on the surface of the vehicle
